Sedation Dentistry

One aspect of the dental profession that Dr. Mobley cares deeply about is treating patients who suffer from dental anxiety. We now know that oral health is very closely related to and intricately linked with a person’s overall health. And you can’t enjoy good oral health if you don’t visit your dentist on a regular basis. So for people with dental anxiety, it’s particularly important to make their visits to our office as comfortable and relaxing as possible. That’s why Dr. Mobley is pleased to offer various sedation dentistry methods to her patients from throughout the West Lake Hills, TX, area.

Advancements in Sedation Dentistry

Just as virtually every other aspect of the dentistry has advanced over the past few years, so have sedation dentistry techniques. The fact is that today’s sedation methods can be tailored and fine-tuned for each individual, so whether you experience a slight amount of anxiety or full-blown panic when you visit the dentist, Dr. Mobley can make the experience more relaxing than you ever believed possible.

Your Sedation Dentistry Options

Here at our office, we offer two forms of sedation dentistry:

Nitrous Oxide

Also known by the name “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide is one of the most common forms of dental sedation. It is administered here in our office, before the patient’s procedure begins, and the effects of the gas wear off quickly. This means that not only can a patient drive herself to our office for her appointment; she can also drive herself home or back to work afterwards. Nitrous oxide is often an excellent choice for people who experience relatively mild anxiety during a dental visit.

Oral Sedation

If you suffer from more intense anxiety when visiting the dentist, Dr. Mobley may recommend oral sedation. When using this technique, the patient is prescribed an oral medication by Dr. Mobley ahead of their scheduled visit. The patient then takes the sedation prior to the appointment. With oral sedation, you’ll remain wide awake but very much relaxed throughout your appointment. You may feel slightly drowsy as well. With oral sedation, it’s best to have someone drive you to your appointment and give you a ride home afterwards as well.
