Root Canal Therapy

Dr. Mobley understands that many her patients experience some level of anxiety when visiting the dentist. For those people in particular, the thought of having a root canal may sound terrifying. But the fact is that root canals are very common procedures performed every single day by dentists everywhere. And thanks to modern dental procedures, advanced instruments, and effective dental sedation techniques, having a root canal is neither frightening nor painful. Dr. Mobley is pleased to offer root canal therapy to her patients from throughout the West Lake Hills, TX, area.

How to Know if You Need Root Canal Therapy

Root canals are typically used when the pulp of a tooth has become infected, and the only way to be certain whether or not you need the procedure is to visit Dr. Mobley for an oral exam. However, there are symptoms you may experience that could indicate a root canal is needed, including the following:
  • A severe toothache that gets worse when you bite down
  • Sensitivity to hot and cold foods and drinks
  • Swollen and/or tender gum tissue around a certain tooth
  • Darkening of a tooth
  • A sore on the gums located close to a tooth

It’s important to remember that you may also need a root canal without experiencing any symptoms whatsoever, although that is not common.

The Root Canal Therapy Procedure

After administering dental sedation to the patient, Dr. Mobley begins the procedure by removing the infected pulp and nerves inside the tooth. After that, she thoroughly cleans the tooth and seals it off. In many cases, she also places a crown over the affected tooth to further protect it.
