The contouring process involves the use of dental bonding material comprised of composite resin that adheres to the surface of the patient’s natural teeth. While the material is still in a moldable form, Dr. Mobley precisely sculpts and shapes it to remove imperfections, improve the alignment of the patient’s bite, and greatly enhance the strength of each tooth. After the bonding material is applied and sculpted by Dr. Mobley, she hardens it using a specially designed curing light. The bonding material is quite durable and typically lasts for several years. Although the procedure often produces dramatic improvements in the appearance of the patient’s smile, it can usually be completed in a single trip to the dental office.
This procedure is often an excellent way to repair minor imperfections and improve the appearance of a person’s smile. If you have teeth that are chipped, crooked, discolored, or have wide gaps between your teeth, bonding and contouring may be the solution. Patients whose teeth have been worn down (by teeth grinding, for example), as well as people with misaligned bites, may also be good candidates for dental bonding and contouring.
